As a result of their common love for almighty God and preborn children, Steve Koob and Mary Ann Walsh founded One More Soul (U.S.A.) in 1992. OMS’s first resources included “The Connection between Contraception and Abortion” and Bishop Flavin’s ever-inspiring letter, “In Obedience to Christ: A Pastoral Letter to Catholic Couples and Physicians on the Issue of Contraception.” A huge variety of educational resources, centered on Pope Paul VI’s Humanae Vitae, soon grew and became widely distributed in Dioceses across the United States.
The first One More Soul Canadian resource, arriving from the U.S. mother house in 1995, was a box of 100 cassettes containing, “Contraception: Why Not?” by Janet Smith. So began the conference-hopping and organizing. At the expense of a kind donor, the mission of One More Soul: Canada gained official recognition as a non-profit in 2002.
Affiliated with OMS U.S.A. our team continues to distribute resources that help people understand the tremendous blessings of children and the spiritual, physical, and emotional harms of artificial birth control and the contraception mentality. It is our hope to reach all Dioceses in the country, offering support to clergy, health-care workers, marriage preparation teams, natural family planning instructors, parents, and high school teachers.
Long gone are the boxes of CWN cassettes. The message, however, continues to be the same: children are always a blessing. Every human being demonstrates God’s immeasurable love for all of us, particularly those in the earliest and most vulnerable phase of life.
As we begin this newest venture on the Feast of St. Joseph, husband of the Blessed Virgin Mary and foster-father of Our Lord Jesus Christ, let us keep in mind our universal call to share the Good News. The Solemnity of the Annunciation which will soon be celebrated on March 25th, will be a good opportunity to prayerfully commit to this apostolate. I ask that all begin with the offering of a Holy Mass on this spectacular Feast celebrated 9 months before the Nativity. May all your efforts to build a Culture of Life be rooted in the Heavenly Bridge between God and man, the Holy Eucharist.
